[Notes] Broken Generation

“John Clellon Holmes… and I were sitting around trying to think up the meaning of the Lost Generation and the subsequent existentialism and I said ‘You know John, this is really a beat generation’; and he leapt up and said, ‘That’s it, that’s right!’”

2022

Warp Point Technology. Unstable, unreliable, irresistible.

Destroyed our moon. Destroyed our Earth. Destroyed our culture.

We watched her bleed, bleed from the mountain tops, bleed in the ocean. Luna railed on the Earth for letting us out of her bosom. The cradle.

We were a destroyed people, a destroyed species, more alone in this universe than ever with the destruction of our Home and all her children. The remaining Us far too young for this vast and wide space, we worked it out with ol’ space though. We would land on Mars Reborn and we’d leave the void alone for a while.

2054

We were no longer destroyed, no longer homeless, and damned if we weren’t going to bust our chops to get back in space. That cold bitch Space should have known we wouldn’t stay down for long! It was time to reach for the stars and sucker punch them in the kidney.

We got the old wreckage floating around our dear old mom Earth and began again on the Warp Point Technology. This time we would get it right.

2071

Yeah, we did it. But why?

Yeah, we had to crash on Mars. But when?

Yeah, we got back into that daunting void. Now what? These were the questions of a Broken Generation. A generation that had grown up in a hash of cultures, some of it home grown on Mars, some taken from the past life.

We were the Broken Generation and we decided society sucks.
